“…that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Cor. 5:19
Intro -on the Sundays leading up to Easter I am focusing on the theme of reconciliation…which is at the heart of our church’s mission statement and at the heart of the gospel and which is the grand story of the whole Bible…
“…that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.” 2 Cor. 5:19 Intro -as you know we have been looking at our church’s three biblical priorities these past few weeks…sp. maturity, authentic community and missional living…which grow out of our mission statement…but I realize I haven’t taken the time to focus on the mission statement itself… So what I want to do in the next few sermons as we make our way up to Easter, is to focus on the heart of our church’s mission statement…which is also the heart of the gospel and the heart of the Easter message, which is “reconciliation”… MISSIONAL LIVING – BREATHE IT OUT
We are currently in a series on our 3 priorities of Northgate Baptist all framed around our mission statement which is: The community of Northgate Baptist exists to bring all people into a reconciled relationship with God, themselves, and others. The first priority we talked about was Authentic Community. Pastor John shared how we are all important and vital members of the body of Christ and what we need to do in order to have authentic community. Last week Pastor Bob shared about Spiritual Maturity, and how as followers of Jesus we need to be continually growing in our faith and he gave us some practical ways to do that. This week I am excited to be able to share with you on something that I am passionate about, and that is missional living. Pastor Bob spoke on what it meas to be spiritually mature from Ephesians 4:11-16. Above all, spiritual maturity is achieved in a community and is not a lone ranger activity. These include 1. Works of service, 2. Unity in the faith, 3. Knowledge of the Son of God, and 4. Speaking the Truth in Love.
